Description

title: Hikari (Light)
fandom: Heat Guy J
characters: Shun and Daisuke
note: It's been so long since I actually liked what I drew. I'm in love with the hair (again). openCanvas then used photoshop for the texture. The scars are annoying, but at least they actually look torn flesh.

"I want to hold you but I can't reach you" is from the 2nd ending song of the series. I love this song. And I'll be delusional about it and promptly ignore the blatant truth that this is what Kyoko feels towards Daisuke.

"I grew up looking at those scars" is just a paraphrase of what I consider as the catalyst that finally hits home, when Daisuke was talking to Shun. But you can't deny some of the lines from the song fits Daisuke and Shun :D.

Spoiler: Don't read further if you don't want to know.
For those who haven't seen this anime, here's the gist of the story:
Shun and Daisuke are brothers (Shun is older). Their mother is of a different race (called Celestials) and only stayed with them for a short while. The Celestials came by and she left her family. Daisuke was still too young then, but Shun wasn't and he hated their mother. A few years later, their father was assassinated right in front of them. Shun covered Daisuke with his body to shield Daisuke from the glass shards falling/flying around them because of the explosion. The incident only hardened Shun more. Later, he found out the assassination was masterminded by his mother's relative (brother or uncle). And Shun lived on with hate and anger from then on.

A lot of things happened in between but by the end of the series, Shun believed that the country he was in had lost its dignity and honor and he would force it back, if it meant dictatorship. This meant trampling on the underground world (slums, black market, etc) regardless of livelihood. It was then that Daisuke and Shun fought each other. And Daisuke said that Shun can't see the scars on his back, the ones he got while protecting Daisuke. "I grew up looking at it."

And Shun calmed down after being surprised with the statement. I love the metaphor of it all.

This is really pretty. I loved that ending too, and how Daisuke got through to him. I think the dynamic between them as brothers was pretty cool, especially how they were both being protective in their own way, just that one didn't know how to go about it correctly. I was really upset when... well, without spoiling everyone who reads the comments, let me just refer to the dropped coffee cup and assume you'll get what I mean. T_T But all ended okay, and I'm glad the show had such an uplifting finish.
